The evil eye is the feeling of envy or jealously that people have towards one another. It might not even be that at first. Someone or something that a person sees may inspire real admiration. However, admiration might evolve into envy at some time. As a result, we must use caution in this area. Between adulation and the evil eye is a thin line. If one isn't careful, they may find themselves in the latter category. The evil eye has the ability to affect whatever item or person it is directed at.
Not every sense of jealousy results in the evil eye. The evil eye, on the other hand, becomes a serious possibility when a person has something against another person or when there is some level of negativity involved. The evil eye is so subtle that the person who gives it may not even realise what they are doing!
Muslims are required to pray to Allah for protection from the evil eye. For protection, there are Quranic passages that we can say. In such instances, the Prophet (PBUH) also advised us about various duas that we can recite.
How's evil eye symptoms
- Headaches that move from one part of the head to another
- Face turning yellow
- Sweating and urinating a lot
- Poor appetite
- Palpitations in the heart
- Pain in back and shoulders
- Anxiety and stress
- Sleepless nights
- A great deal of reactions due to abnormal fears
- A lot of yawning and burping
- Withdrawal of love and solitude
- Laziness
- Health issues without any major medical cause
Bathing to ward off the evil eye
As a remedy for the evil eye, Muhammad (S) offered one approach. He explained that the one who is the source of the evil eye should perform wudu. The wudu water should then be poured over the person who has been afflicted with the evil eye. That, if Allah's will be done, would cure it.
The Prophet (PBUH) said in a Hadith from Sahih Muslim that if someone begs them to take a bath as a cure for the evil eye, they should do so.
A relevant occurrence was also documented in Sunan ibn Majah's lengthy Hadith. Another colleague passed by another who was showering and exclaimed, "I've never seen such skin." The individual who had been lauded had fallen to the ground. People then took him to the Prophet (PBUH). The Prophet (PBUH) advised people to pray for blessings whenever they came upon something pleasing. He then demanded water and forced the individual to perform wudu. Then he poured the water on the guy who was afflicted.
The Ruqyah's several advantages
Angel Jibril approached the Prophet (PBUH) and enquired if he was suffering, according to a Hadith in Jami at-Tirmidhi. Muhammad (S) said affirmatively. Jibril then declared he would recite Ruqyah over him to guard him from the evil eye and people's evils.
The Ruqyah can be performed in a variety of ways according to Sunnah. You must start and finish with the Durood in all of them (three times). You may say Surah al-Fatiha seven times in between. In a longer form of the Ruqyah, you must also say Ayat al-Kursi three times in between. Muslims must also recite the last three Surahs, Naas, Falaq, Ikhlaas, three times each in the longest version.
The end of Surah Falaq does definitely mention the danger of the evil or envious eye, and we pray to Allah evil eye protection from us.
Other protection duas and ways
Dua to remove evil eye
Aoo dhu bi kalimaa tilla hit taam maati min sharri ma khalaq.
This signifies that the one reciting it is asking Allah's Words to protect him from the evil of his creation.
Aoo dhu bi kalimaa tilla hit taam maati min ghada bihee wa sharrin ‘ibaadi hee wa min hamazaa tish shayatini wa aeen yah durun.
This dua is longer than the previous one, and it also asks Allah to protect you from Allah's wrath and the devil's whispers and presence.
Aoo dhu bi kalimaa tilla hit taam maati min kulli shaitan in wa haammaah wa min kulli aynin laammaah.
Once again, this dua seeks refuge in Allah’s perfect Words from devils, reptiles, and the last portion is a reference to the evil eye.
Hasbi Allahoo laa ilaahaa illaa huwa alayhi tawak kaltu wa huwa Rabb ul arsh il azeem.
This is a Quranic dua that states that Allah is sufficient for the person reciting it and that he places his complete reliance in Allah, the Lord of the throne.
To be protected from all dangers, including the evil eye, a person should strive to become closer to Allah. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways, including performing obligatory and supererogatory activities. Muslims must also recite the Quran on a regular basis and concentrate on the Sunnah duas and adhkaar. For protection from ills, we should often recite the Ayat al-Kursi and the last two Surahs of the Quran, Falaq and Nas.
Are there any amulets or charms that might protect you from the evil eye?
Many Muslims think that amulets, for example, can provide them with protection. They have taaweez, or amulets, with the Ayat al-Kursi written on them. This, however, is contrary to Islam's principles. Islam believes in acting on Quran verses rather than keeping them in an amulet or hanging them on the wall as a kind of protection. The only thing that can keep us safe is if we seek Allah's help and He responds.
In a Hadith from Sunan an-Nasa'i, the Prophet (PBUH) stated that he has no dealings with anyone who knots or twists his beard, uses amulets, or cleans himself with bones or manure.
Musnad Ahmed mentioned in another Hadith that wearing an amulet or taaweez is equivalent to shirk.
The Prophet (PBUH) prayed in another Hadith from Musnad Ahmed that Allah does not fulfil the demand of someone who wears an amulet. He also prayed that Allah would not shield anyone who wore seashells to ward off the evil eye.
According to another narrative, the Messenger (PBUH) took a group of people's pledge of allegiance. He did, however, leave one guy out. When questioned why he did it, he said it was because he was wearing an amulet. He then shattered the charm before taking the promise of fealty. Following that, he stated that someone who wears an amulet is guilty of shirk.
The evil eye does not always necessitate jealousy.
We must remember that the person who casts the evil eye does not have to be envious or jealous. If anybody finds something in himself, his assets, or his brother, he should pray for blessings, according to the Prophet (PBUH). He went on to say that the evil eye exists.
As a result, self-admiration may even be the source of the evil eye. If a person admires himself or his belongings too much, he can damage himself. As a result of adoring family members or their possessions, a person may inflict the evil eye on them.
By uttering Allah humma baarik feehee (for a male) and Allah humma baarik feehaa (for a woman), a Muslim might seek protection from the evil eye (for a woman). In this approach, the individual who says it asks for blessings for the person who is admired.
What are the best ways to safeguard yourself nowadays?
We must be aware of how we conduct ourselves in today's world and keep everything in perspective. We should ask Allah's help when we need it, but we should also take precautions when we can, as the Prophet (PBUH) advised.
The internet and social media are two examples of connected phenomena. There are various options now that everyone has a smartphone, which means cheap access to cameras and the internet. The most serious threat to the evil eye is pervasive images on the internet.
People frequently snap photographs of their families, close relatives, and acquaintances and share them widely on social media. While this may be useful for sharing information with family and close friends and keeping everyone up to date even if they are not in the same location, it also has a number of drawbacks.
The most serious disadvantage is the evil eye. The possibilities are unlimited whenever a person exposes photographs of themselves to a wide range of individuals on the internet. It is possible that the images will be detrimental if they fall into the wrong hands. The evil eye can be caused by jealousy and envy.
Due to the numerous risks associated with these activities, it is preferable to share photographs, movies, and other content with small, private groups of family and friends rather than in public.
Above all, we should strive to be as close to Allah as possible by adhering to the Quran and Sunnah. That is the secret to our success in all of our endeavours.
Conclusion
The evil eye is quite real, and Muslims must recognise it and do all possible to avoid its consequences. The evil eye's effects can be highly destructive. As a result, we may see this topic discussed throughout the Quran and Sunnah. The Sunnah provides us with guidelines that we should apply in our daily lives. We can recite several Quranic verses and duas to shield ourselves from the evil eye.
